Guruji Viswanath

Reflection of me and Shadow to me – is the best way I can describe Guruji Viswanath.

I went along with my music teacher to meet Guruji, in 2002. Even just after meeting him a couple of times, during his official Friday/Sunday ‘SATHSANGS’ held at Bangalore, I knew he wasn’t someone who could tolerate untruth of any kind. He would react/respond strangely when I wasn’t being my self or when I did or said something other than the truth. I consider this as the most important thing anyone could have done for me.

He would also just BE and encourage all of us also to just BE, subtly.

The conviction he had about his songs being the ultimate solution for the unsettling nature of human mind, startled me at first, but his lyrics were simple and straightforward and it was directed towards each person’s centre of existence.

In 2004 I got an opportunity
to digitally archive his
speeches and songs
thereby also getting
the privilege of singing
his songs in future sathsangs

In many a conversations, he has hinted to me that, every sound a singer makes, should take them and the listener to his own laya (merger), which brought me to realise the sensitivity of music, for the first time in this birth of mine. I’m quite lucky to be associated with him and being able to continue working with his KENDRA.
